German situation map of Crimea, dated 14 September 1942.

Pausing beside a French-built Delahaye 103 A truck on the dusty Bakhchisarai-Yalta road, outside Bakhchisarai in central Crimea. Production of this elderly model began in the late 1920s.

The Marinefährprahm (naval ferry barge) was a landing craft developed for the aborted 1940 invasion of England: Operation Seelöwe (Sea Lion). A total of 720 of these craft were built. MFP 306 was commissioned at Gollnow Shipyard, Stettin, on 19 June 1941. Assigned to the 3 Landungsflottille (3rd Landing Flotilla), this lighter was sunk by a bomb hit on the engine room at Kamysch-Burun, south of Kerch, on 30 November 1943.
